In 2017, former chief warrant officer Darcy Elder retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after a career spanning three decades that involved deployments to Afghanistan, Bosnia, and East Timor and visits to 51 other countries.
Like many other veterans, Elder was left with lasting injuries as a result of his time in the Forces, including PTSD and a back injury. Elder decided to apply for disability benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC).
